Mission & Vision:

Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the systems and processes necessary for the efficient translation and utilization of the best available evidence at all levels of clinical decision-making throughout KFSH&RC (e.g. Screening, Therapy, Diagnosis and Prognosis) by:

1 Ensuring the use of a unified grading system for the level of clinical evidence throughout KFSHRC.
2 Developing systems and processes that ensure a consistent standard in the systematic review, translation and utilization of the best available evidence.
3 Promoting the effective utilization of evidence based care bundles, clinical pathways, protocols and guidelines.
4 Establishing organization wide education and awareness of Evidence Based Practice.
5 Collaborating with EBP Centers of Excellence nationally and internationally.

Monitoring key performance indicators and clinical outcomes related to the utilization of the best available evidence.


Achievements
1 Three (3) Introduction to Evidence Based Medicine Workshops (offered to both hospital staff and other clinicians from throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
2 Saudi Council for Health Specialties approved curriculum for Introduction to Evidence Based Practice – (approx 200 nursing staff have completed this program to date).
3 Hospital wide implementation of two (2) Evidence Based Bundles.
4 Hospital wide implementation of a multidisciplinary Clinical Pathways program (> 12 Clinical Pathways in use throughout the hospital).
5 2003, the establishment of Nursing Affairs Practice Committee which has been successful in the development of systems and processes that ensure all nursing practice related IPP’s, guidelines are based on the best available evidence.

Future Plans
1 Successful implementation of a multidisciplinary Evidence Based Practice committee.
2 Development of a curriculum for all clinically based orientees that provides the orientee with the necessary skill base to function as a Evidence Based Practitioner.
3 Conduct research into the utilization and effectiveness of various translations of EBP.

Mission & Vision:

MissionProvide continuous support and consultation regarding Evidence Based Health Care (EBHC) to the health care professionals and institutions.
VissionThe group will ensure that the evidence based health care will be implemented fully and effectively in all health care institutes.

Objectives
1 To increase awareness about EBM among the health professionals and at various levels of the health care system.
2 To incorporate the concept of EBM in the process of health care decision making.
3 To coordinate with local and national scientific centers regarding all educational and training activities of EBM.
4 To encourage the establishment of specialized scientific clubs and groups of EBM in health care institutions in the region.
5 To promote cooperation between various scientific medical societies with the objective of disseminating and promoting the EBM concept into medical specialties.
6 To ensure implementation of the EBM curriculum in medical education in both undergraduate and postgraduate stages.

Achievements
It is a newly established Group, and is yet to take off. However, it has achieved the following:
1 Introduction of EBM into the undergraduate curriculum of Al-Qassim Medical College (2005).
2 The Group is organizing an EBM Workshop to be held in January 2008 at Qassim.
3 Organized a series of lectures in EBM for the members of Faculty of Medicine, Qassim University (2006-2007).

Future Plans
1 The Group is organizing an EBM Workshop to be held on January 8-10, 2008 in Qassim. The Workshop will be open for medical professionals from all specialities including teaching and clinical disciplines.
2 The Group is preparing a series of workshops for medical professionals in Qassim Region, in order to appriase them of the latest developments in the field.
3 The Group is also working to seek accreditation of its courses and lectures so as to facilitate earning of continued medical education (CME) credits for the participants.
4 In connection with the above the Group is also seeking accreditation to become the official training site for EBM in Qassim toward postgraduate degrees of the participants.

1 A separate email & forum within our website for exchanging EBM news between our members.
2 Subscription for clinical evidence & Cochrane collaborations with its free availability for all on their clinical menu within the clinic time of the computer.
3 Big Auditorium for major symposia and conference which accommodates more than 400 attendees at the same time. This is besides many small rooms suitable for the interactive workshops.
4 Regular weekly intra-departmental meeting for most of the hospitals departments.
5 We have extended Academic Affairs activities that support the scientific activity of any department and offers training for multiple outsider target health care professionals.
6 Our series of SGNA Institutes (Saudi German Institute for Nursing & Allied Health Sciences & BMC (Batterjee Medical Colleges) which are adopting the student-centered approach in learning to create our own staff who will be easily shifted toward being a life long learner.
7 We have also a unique SGH-Academy which targets the CPD for all our staff starting from the workers & Receptionist up to Nurses, physicians, Academic People & heads of different departments.
8 Editing SGH Medical journal every month where in it’s every edition, there is of 1-2 EB article &1-2 educational article plus a lot of clinical trials.
9 Regular monthly meeting of EBM club to update its members with hot & updated issues related.

Achievements
1 Hosting conference, discussing the evidence-based pediatrics, EB Rheumatology, EB Urology, EB Psychiatry & EB nursing in which many papers regarding the concept and the Pediatric Practice.
2 Establishing an online library for clinical evidence & Cochrane collaborations with their updated best evidence.
3 Inviting many experts in Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) nationally and internationally like Prof. Guyatt from Canada through Teleconference Systems with marvelous talks about EBM.
4 Establishing many critical reading workshops for physicians and nurses that are about 100 trained out of these workshops.
5 Conducting an online 2 days workshop for search for Evidence one long day workshop for EB Physiotherapy.

Future Plans
1 Strengthening our collaboration with local and international EBM groups.
2 Share actively in Cochrane Collaboration activities.
3 Establishing our Research Center.
4 Establishing the Journal club Sessions weekly in various medical disciplines.
5 Continuing the critical reading session until covering all the professionals within the group.
6 Introducing EBL (Evidence-Based Learning) in the undergraduate curriculum and postgraduate curriculum in Batterjee Medical College.
7 Establishing an award for the true best physician utilizing evidence frequently in his/her clinical decision-making.
8 Coming up with clinical pathways and guidelines based on evidence for the most common diseases and illnesses encountered in daily practice.
9 Establishing an EBM membership for all the health care professionals working in SGH Group and announce it as a sign of competency and Excellency in medical practice.
10 Widen more our EBM Library.
11 To start some EBM outreach activities in collaboration with other Groups like Madina & Taif Working Groups.
