Mission & Vision:

MissionTo create an ‘Evidence Based Practice’ culture within the medical community by providingbasic simplified EBM teaching and continuous support and consultation regarding Evidence Based Health Care (EBHC) to health care professionals and medical students.
VisionTo have evidence based health care in action in all health care institutions (both governmental and private), where it is properly understood and practiced by all health care providers, and reflects on Quality of Care provided.
Aim
  • To provide basic simplified EBM teaching to health care profession.
  • To provide continuous support and consultation regarding EBM to health care professionals.

Group Action Plan Steps
1 Conducting courses:
  1. Basic (Level I):
    Aims at teaching basic concepts of EBM, and stimulating healthcare workers to practice it. This conducted as a 4-day course. It consists of plenary sessions, critical appraisal workshops and practical Internet search sessions. Workshops are conducted daily and teaching is generally interactive.
  2. Advanced (Level II):
    Aims at helping healthcare providers teach and practice EBM. It also aims at introducing them to critical appraisal of Decision analysis papers, Cost-effective analysis and Clinical guidelines.
  3. Advanced (Level III):
    Aims at helping healthcare providers conduct Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, and develop clinical Guidelines.
  4. Introductory Course:
    This 1 day course aims at introducing healthcare providers to the concept of EBHC and the how to find secondary sources of evidence (ready made evidence) on the Internet.
2 To provide custom EBM courses in health care institute based on their needs.
3 To plan for a future “Gulf EBM Website”.
4 Assigning specific tasks to members who have special interests and / or expertise in specific areas of EBM. Each of these members will be available to others as a resource in that specific area (e.g., Systematic reviews, Economic analysis, Clinical trials). This aims to help in improving and updating members in EBM topics. In addition it will enable those who want to learn in more depth specific areas of evidence-based research. It will also help those with special interests to improve their knowledge in that area.
5 Generating subspecialty groups that can help provide Evidence-based Information to Health Care Providers in the same specialty (e.g., Primary Care, Ob/Gynecology, Neurosurgery, Diabetology).

Mission & Vision:

MissionTo improve health care through establishment and promotion of EBHC practices  among health care providers in Taif Region.
VisionTo become a model among MODA EBM groups and be a recognized group for the practice of EBHC allover the kingdom.

Objectives
In accordance with the vision & mission statements EBM-MWG adopts the following goals and objectives:
1 To incorporate the practice of EBHC  in providing patient care.
2 To provide health care professionals with training, consultation and resources regarding the implementation of EBM.
3 To facilitate easy access to the best evidence available worldwide.
4 To collaborate with other local, regional and international EBHC Groups.
5 To encourage learning and practicing EBN.

Achievements
1

Conducting EBM and EBN workshops:

  • 1st national EBM workshop, Al-Hada Hospital, Taif Region, 2004.
  • 2nd National EBM workshop, 2006
  • 3rd National EBM workshops (2008) which contained:
    • Basic EBM workshop
    • Basic EBN workshop
    • Training the trainers workshop
2 Weakly lectures and small workshops for all medical and nursing staff.
3 EBHC unit is well equipped and providing services to all staff.
4 Inviting national experts in the field of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) (e.g., Dr Lubna Al-Ansari, Dr M El-Babary) to provide training and consultation.
5 Supervising critical appraisal departmental workshops (e.g., Internal medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery).
6 Conducting monthly practical session for search for Evidence.

Future Plans
1 Strengthening our collaboration with local and international EBM groups.
2 Conducting 4th national EBHC workshop.
3 Inviting international experts in the field of EBHC.
4 Establishing Journal club Sessions weekly in various medical disciplines.
5 Coming up with clinical pathways and guidelines based on evidence for the most common diseases and illnesses encountered in daily practice.
6 Establishing an EBM membership for all the health care professionals in Taif region.
7 Establishing EBM Library.
8 EBM outreach activities with other EBM groups in the western region (e.g., Jeddah, Madina)

Mission & Vision:

MissionTrain the Medical and Paramedical staff on E.B.M practices, using the best available  resources to improve the health of individuals, families and community.
VisionAl-Madinah E.B.M Group is the best source for teaching EBM practices.

Objectives
In accordance with the vision & mission statements EBM-MWG adopts the following goals and objectives:
1 Train the medical and paramedical staff (Physicians and Nurses) on the skill of EBM.
2 Enlighten the worker in the health facilities about the idea of EBM.
3 Train the postgraduate family physicians on the skills of EBM.
4 Appraise the medical literature that involves the patient management and diagnosis.
5 Advise the other health sectors in Al-Madinah city about the practice of EBM when needed.

1 Conducted so far 4 workshops on EBM skills.
2 Liaised with Jeddah EBM group on conducting the 3rd. workshop in April 2005.
3 Conducted a field work survey on the awareness of physicians about EBM.
4 Appraised several papers in the teaching program of postgraduate in Family Medicine.
5 Conducted several lectures to explain the idea of EBM in the different health facilities in  Al-Madinah
6 Individual subscription to the UpToDate and clinical evidence this year 2007.
7 Two of our trainers joined the course in Jeddah for training the trainers.
8 A new member (trained at McMaster) joined our group this year 2007 (Dr. Ahmed Al-Sagheir).
9 Weekly Journal Club.

Future Plans
1 5th EBM- Workshop is to be conducted this year (19th -21st May 2007).
2 Extend our activities to train as many doctors and nurses in Al-Madinah city as possible.
3 Reinforce the cooperation with NGCEBM,Riyadh, Jeddah and other EBM groups elsewhere.
4 Update our group with up to date knowledge and skills in this field (EBM).
5 Cooperate with international EBM groups.
6 Open to include more active members in this EBM working group.
7 Another member from McMaster in joining us soon (Dr. Khalid Alfalih).
8 Accreditation of this center is in the final stages from the Saudi Council for health specialties.
9 Teaching the Idea of information mastery, and how to link or subscribe to ready made evidence information sites.
10 About to subscribe with the Cochrane library.
